Lipedema and its degrees
Lipedema mainly affects women. It generally arises from a hormonal imbalance. Lipedema gradually spreads and creates a pattern that is usually repeated from one patient to another (degrees or phases).
The first symptoms Lipedema usually occurs in the buttocks and hips area (phase I). They are gaining more and more volume, until they affect the thighs and knees (phase II).
Later, when it surpasses the knees, it continues to develop until it stops completely at the ankles of the affected person (phase III). It is often said that the ankle takes the shape of a cup, since there is a clear difference between the part of the ankle not affected by lipedema and the part that is.
Phase IV is the one that develops in the arms.
What is lipedema in the legs?
Lipedema mainly affects the leg area. Is due to diseased tissue which develops adipose cells that grow in a compact way. Over time, the skin of the person who suffers from lipedema becomes hard since the fat grows in a compacted way.
Between the main symptoms, discomfort from pinching the skin, numbness, spider veins in the thigh area and a significant increase in sensitivity to temperature and pressure on the skin.
It should be noted that it is possible that the development of lipedema affects the joints such as the knees because it is possible that accumulations of fat develop in that area and the joint does not function well. First, because of the fat that generates pressure and tension on the patient's skin and because fat can affect the joint.
