How do I know if I have lipedema?
Lipedema is a disease that affects the adipose tissue of the legs (from the hips to the ankles) and in some cases it also affects the arms.
To know if you have lipedema, it is necessary that a medical specialist as Dr. Weigand performs a physical exploration, your medical history, family history, among other tests.
But generally, this type of disease usually develops in a pattern very characteristic. It mainly affects women, and the fat produced by the disease cannot be reduced by eating healthy or by exercising daily.
The fat accumulates in the shape of a ball or sphere, and finally those clusters are the ones that can be seen through the skin because they form a certain relief.
Why does lipedema appear?
Lipedema is a disease that affects the cells that produce fat in the body, thus leaving diseased tissue that does not stop producing fat that compacts over time.
So, it is necessary to deal with a medical specialist in the treatment of lipedema so that it can attack the origin of the problem (the diseased tissue) and in this way, that fat does not appear again.
Generally with WAL liposuction or PAL liposculpture, as they are techniques developed specifically to treat lipedema, does not appear again.
It should be noted that it is important to take care of yourself anyway by eating healthy and exercising to maintain new figure after undergoing the intervention.
How is it treated?
Lipedema is cured through an intervention that, if the patient is within the norm, without special characteristics in the medical condition, can be treated with a special liposuction which eliminates the diseased tissue and extracts the fat produced by lipedema and you can return home that same day.
Elaborating a little on the two main methods by which Dr. Weigand treats lipedema, we have:
- WAL Liposuction: This type of liposuction should not be confused with cosmetic liposuction that is performed to remove accumulated fat that has been generated naturally. This technique is specially developed for the treatment of lipedema. The pioneers in the treatment of lipedema were german surgeons, like Dr. Weigand, who developed a system that uses a cannula (a type of needle) that uses a special solution that dissolves fat accumulations. In this way, diseased tissue and accumulated fat are more easily extracted.
- PAL Liposculpture: This technique uses a cannula that, through small vibrations, releases the fat accumulations so that their extraction is easier. In this way, an optimal result is achieved in terms of the treatment of lipedema.
Remember that if you want to know if you have lipedema, you can do the 12 question test that Dr. Weigand's lipedema clinic has developed. On the other hand, if you prefer, you can make an appointment with the doctor through our contact page.
